Ernesto González Gutiérrez de Lara

Ernesto González Gutiérrez de Lara is a Civil and Hydraulic Engineer with more than 20 years of professional experience dedicated exclusively to water systems, environmental sustainability and ecosystem restoration.

His career has focused on integrated water management across a wide range of contexts, from community-scale systems to complex public sector infrastructure in Mexico.

His technical expertise includes wastewater treatment – particularly biological treatment and nature-based solutions – as well as the design and modernization of potable water networks, sanitary and stormwater drainage systems and wastewater treatment plants. Ernesto has published scientific research and presented at international conferences on wastewater treatment, and has led the technical design, evaluation and upgrading of numerous water and sanitation systems throughout the State of Mexico and the Valley of Mexico. 

Ernesto has also held senior public sector advisory roles, most recently serving as Advisor and Technical Secretary to the Executive Commissioner of the State of Mexico Water Commission (CAEM) and within the Secretariat of Water for the State of Mexico. His notable project experience includes the rehabilitation of the Tláhuac-Xico Lagoon, Sierra Morelos Park in Toluca, wetland and trickling filter systems in Iztapalapa, wastewater treatment facilities at Cuitláhuac Park and multiple interventions within the Cutzamala System, including the Los Berros Potabilization Plant.

Ernesto holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
