Francis Ogunpitan
Francis Ogunpitan manages water-related projects and programs across East and West Africa.
He is committed to supporting GETF and its affiliate organizations, such as the Global Water Challenge (GWC), in delivering high-quality program management to ensure sustainable access to water and resources for underserved communities in Africa and beyond. From 2017 to 2019, he led a $2 million WASH project under the GETF-managed RAIN program, which benefited over 56,000 people in Abia and Cross River States, Nigeria. Between 2011 and 2017, he also oversaw multiple GETF-managed projects in Nigeria.
With over 30 years of experience in social development, Francis specializes in program management, monitoring, and evaluation of development interventions with a focus on rural development in Nigeria and Africa. Throughout his career, he has dedicated himself to supporting marginalized and underserved communities. His past roles include managing projects for the Justice, Development and Peace Commission, WaterAid, and the Department for International Development (now the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office). He has also served as a long-term consultant for a concluded European Commission-funded Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Reform Programme, concentrating on institutional and policy expertise in monitoring and evaluation.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Nigeria, and both a master’s and PhD in Sociology with a focus on Development from the University of Abuja, Nigeria.
