Michele Dastin-van Rijn
As the Senior Advisor to the United States Water Partnership (USWP), Michele Dastin-van Rijn strengthens public-private water partnerships, identifies opportunities to tailor U.S. expertise to critical water challenges, and expands knowledge of and access to U.S. hydro-ingenuity by deepening and widening networks.
Michele applies her 25 years as a public service executive in the U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the U.S. Department of State to growing and strengthening five partnerships between U.S. utility partners and ASEAN Association of Southeast Asian Nations Smart City Network utilities that are improving water and wastewater services to over 15 million residents by encouraging adoption of innovative technologies and best practices for sustainable water management. She taps into her familiarity and connections with multilateral and regional organizations and U.S. regulatory and trade agencies to connect U.S. hydro-ingenuity, technology and service to tackling tough water challenges. She brings her deep management and communication skills to the launch and expansion of initiatives such as the Water Finance Exchange, H2InfO and the Water Experts Program.
Michele holds a B.A. in Political Economy from the University of California at Berkeley and a M.A. in International Political Economy from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. She speaks seven languages, has advanced U.S. economic and environmental priorities through numerous regional and multilateral organizations, and working in Austria, Belgium, Costa Rica, Israel, Poland and Ukraine.
