GETF develops new pathways.

Today's complex regulatory environment as well as increasing economic pressure for sustainable products and processes
note are creating new challenges for businesses and governments. GETF provides these organizations with the expertise and tools they need to practice proactive environmental management. Whether providing EMS/ISO14000 training or promoting new, efficient environmental technologies, GETF develops pathways to superior environmental management.

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Local Government EMS Initiatives - GETF has entered the second year of a pilot project leading the development and implementation of Environmental Management Systems (EMS) for local municipalities. The prestige and recognition of GETF expertise in the EMS field prompted several of the local entity participants to pay for their own inclusion into the U.S. EPA pilot, as U.S. EPA was able to fund only a certain number of participants. As a result, GETF has or is currently helping 23 municipalities in achieving their EMS objectives. This work has caused GETF to be recognized as a leading expert on EMSs for public entities throughout the country.

The Public Entity Environmental Management System Resource (PEER) Center - GETF created the PEER Center to leverage the mentoring of its Municipalities Project to a wider audience of public organizations. The PEER Center is a virtual clearinghouse specifically designed to provide information, technical assistance, mentoring, and training to local, county and state governments interested in adopting an environmental management system (EMS). As part of the PEER Center, GETF will build the EMS capacity of at least four EMS Regional Resource Centers that will provide local communities with the expertise, tools and information to support EMS initiatives. To facilitate the exchange of ideas and best practices among local governments in local governments in the existing EMS programs, please visit www.peercenter.net.

NASA's John C. Stennis Space Center - GETF has been working closely with the Stennis Center in the development and implementation of an EMS at their facility. As one of three initial pilot participants, Stennis has been viewed as the "model" candidate for implementation of an EMS based on the support and expertise provided by GETF. This project is an extension of Stennis's efforts to explore the potential opportunities between its Commercial Remote Sensing Program (CRSP) and environmental management systems.
