WELCOME                                                                                                

The Global Environment Facility (GEF) and its Implementing Agencies           
(UNDP, UNEP, and the World Bank) plan to host the Fourth Biennial           
International Waters Conference in Cape Town, South Africa from
July 31 - August 3, 2007.  The purpose of the conference is to share
experiences and innovative practices among GEF's global International
Waters portfolio (nearly $4 billion), promote learning and capacity
building, develop strategies to enhance stakeholder collaboration, and
encourage GEF International Waters projects to apply evolving GEF
policies and procedures during implementation.

PARTICIPANTS

It is anticipated that approximately 350 participants from more than 100 countries will attend this invitation only event, including representative from the GEF International Waters project managers and senior staff, Implementing (e.g. UNDP, UNEP, World Bank) and Executing Agency (e.g. UNIDO, FAO, IMO, OAS, NGOs, etc.) officials, donor partners (e.g. EU, Regional development banks), and Secretariats to many Regional Sea and River Basin Conventions.  The event will also feature leadership from UNDP, UNEP, as well as senior South African government officials.  Also in attendance will be ministerial level participants representing over 100 countries that participate in GEF’s International Waters portfolio.
